Postmodern Decline

Comments

[this is good]
"Artists and Writers simply removed themselves from society and began speaking to each other exclusively."

How true! More so with academics. However, in an attempt to speak to the masses in ways that would make their thoughts intelligible to them, are they not reinforcing their increasing 'simpsonian' docility? That is the question the constantly disturbs me.

"
When the artists and writers shut themselves away, the forces of commerce and politics took control of the world. We have to raise our voices and speak of what humanity can do to save itself, not simply list its crimes and feel self-satisfied."

I also believe that the 'forces of commerce and politics' make true art and thought unintelligible to the masses. It can be said that the increasing ignorance of the masses serve as the bars that imprison the artist and the writer. A corporate/capitalist imposed polarisation so to speak.

I'm sometimes inclined to think that postmodernism is actually a logical part of modernism itself. A fallacy within a fallacy that is taken as true because it takes modernism as true.

A damn good article P&V. Might i request that you do more of such pieces? Perhaps you could also do a review of blog-sites, music, etc - be as critical as you want as you seem to be more intelligently critical. Perhaps, if i might suggest, you could start by aiming your critical trebuchet at my site - prior to going after other blogs.(no offence will be taken i assure you) Play the devil's advocate if you will. You seem to be very good in review-style critique, as i had already observed in the past.

I have linked this article in ed-cetera. - which is also accessible via my sidebar.

Thank you for this critique P&V.

Thanks for reading it, I have a bit of a heavy work load right now, but I think I will
try my hand at website reviews once everything dies down. As with this article I
promise to follow through, even if it does take awhile.

It was worth the wait. You put into words what I can't quite gather myself to say yet. I agree with Ed, I would like to see you do more articles like this. It completely explains my aversion to most things "artsy" and WIRED magazine.

There seems to be some sort of undercurrent in our culture now. There are quiet rumblings of grassroots communities and the "slow life." It seems a bit reactionary and might just become another marketing gimmick. I am curious to see how it plays out.

I don't think that the "barefoot economics" movement is any better. Moving backward will get us nowhere. Our problem now is that we are monkies living in cities. Trying to become monkies again will only lead to more monkey-man behavior. Instead we must embrace out collective fate, and work together to find a way to move forward.

Hi P&V,

Thanks for reading it,

Thanks for publishing it.

I think I will
try my hand at website reviews once everything dies down.

I'll look forward to it P&V

Thank you,

ed
